Quarantine Edition

Hey Adventurers! I hope you're all safe and well wherever you are in the world. As I sit at home with my family I've been planning a lot. While I absolutely love spontaneity and am the first one to throw out a wild idea, in all of this uncertainty I have been trying to give myself something to look forward to. I have been doing a lot of trip research.

Idea #1: A cross country road trip that takes all summer - just me and one or two other friends. We bring the camp stove, contact family friends along the way, crash in Walmart parking lots or campsites or friends houses, try to hit as many National Parks as possible, and just social distance together. Gas is easily the biggest expense we have to worry about.

Idea #2: I live in Vermont with my grandparents for the summer. I'll buy a wetsuit so I can sail and paddle board and kayak no matter the water temperature, and start a vegetable and herb garden. I'd really get to improve my sailing skills and would learn a lot about gardening. Possibly would die of boredom but the reliable Green Mountains are not far away for day hikes and Nana is always up for a card game.

Idea #3: Become a Adirondack 46er. I'll map out all the peaks, where campsites are, and plan trips to get it done in one summer. Sometimes accompanied by a friend who wants to do an overnight or a long day hike and sometimes tackle some alone. Figure out which ones are best to do strung together, which ones are standalone and which ones I could easily do in one day. I'd live at home and explore around home too, maybe do some river tubing and trail running.

Depending on the state you're in local parks are closed, restricted, or have not changed. If you're able I encourage you to get outside, it's been a lifeline for me during this tumultuous month. Don't stop planning for the adventures ahead either, appreciate the small ones we have now but know that one day we will get to accomplish all of those goals we have in the future.

Open that atlas, take out a notebook, and do some research! I'll catch you out there sometime and I can't wait to see all of your adventure plans.
