How to Begin Again

Fellow Adventurers, it seems as if the ability to start traveling again will be here fairly soon! This is both very exciting and anxiety producing because we have just spent the last year and a little purposefully NOT traveling. While this pandemonium is not over we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope this post will ease you back into adventure mode and help you begin to plan again!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and with this total lack of ability to travel it has definitely intensified my desire to travel to literally everywhere. So ask yourself, is there a place that began popping up like an intrusive thought as soon as lockdown hit? Do you finally have the drive to book that flight to that obscure place you’ve always wanted to go to?

First, start dreaming! Pull out your atlas, google random stuff, blindly pick a spot on a map. Lots of people, including me, had some very big plans disrupted so go do the thing; go to that country, jump out of a plane, road trip the entire two continents of the Americas because you might not get another shot. Quarantine reinforced the cheesy idea that not everything is guaranteed. Don’t let the partridge crush your dreams. I may never study abroad in Vietnam but I will absolutely still get there someday.

Second, tentatively plan some dates! The first things I have planned start in August because I will be free and because I will be fully vaccinated. Being fully vaccinated is a really important qualification to have before you begin traveling for your safety and others! Remember we want to end this panoramic so the sooner you get the shot the sooner all of our traveling plans can come to fruition! Pick some dates that are realistic for you, if you’re not going to be comfortable traveling for a while then perhaps start planning in October - if you are raring to get out there then plan something right after your vaccination!

Third, pick a location! Either based on activity, climate, or dream country. There is always the option to start close to home and gradually expand your radius until you’re back on a 12+ hour flight to your destination but baby steps right? Or if there a dream destination on top of your list then by all means as soon as you’re ready head on out! Your mode of transportation can also depend on you preference and comfortability. A car is very safe because you only travel with your party but sleeping arrangements would be the only hiccup. You can also take planes which apparently are now fairly safe and clean! Your choice, do what feels right!

Adventurers, enjoy it. Get out there and kick some ass! I trust y’all to know your comfort level and I wish nothing but thrilling adventure with incredible company in your future as we come up on the summer. Take out those atlases, start dreaming, and plan some dates! I will see y’all out there in the most epic mom van ever.
